About the work

The ‘Mars Series’ are about exceptional people doing extraordinary things. Giving birth to a newborn is generally perceived as one of these superhuman actions. I called this painting ‘Birth’ but the woman in this painting isn't pregnant and thus not in labour. It shines a light on the distress of women who have a pregnancy wish but cannot have children.

The abstract universe I place my chosen subjects in is a place where expectations and social conditions no longer exist. A place to simply be in peace and wonder.

The technique is as always build up in layers of acryl pouring, resin and pigments giving the work a three dimensional quality. The glossy result mirrors the viewer, inviting you to look at yourself in the artwork.
