About the work

‘One breath’ is inspired by free diving. 35 years ago I saw the film ‘Le grand blue’ realized by ‘Luc Besson' and I have been fascinated about the sports ever since. To dive into the deep on one breath is a plunge to the edge of life itself. As so often where life and death approach each other, the experience makes us wonder about the meaning of life and our own existence, which is exactly the goal of my artwork. In this large format painting, a woman dives literarily into an abstract universe where time and space no longer exist. 

The painting is realized through different semi-transparent layers of acryl pouring, resin and pigments, which gives it dept. The glossy quality works as a mirror in which you see yourself reflected in the artwork.
